As the user begins to define materials in the Standards Module, the user will be asked to input identifying codes including Material Category Codes, and Material Item Codes.
A Material Code can be any alphanumeric code for system identification purposes (1 to 50 characters).
Any organized system of assigning codes will work in the Eclipse system. But, since codes are required to be unique, it will be easier and less confusing if a systematic approach is employed by the user. The system will not allow a duplicate code, and if a duplicate code entry is attempted, the system will prompt the user with an error message.
The following code recommendations represent only one, of many, systematic approaches to defining codes for the Eclipse system. The user may develop an alternate approach that will work better in a specific production environment.
It is important to note that material category and codes are a method of identifying and sorting items in various data grids. Even though the codes can be long they are not used as the sole method of sorting and searching. Therefore, the user should consider a code syntax that is flexible enough to expand as the number of items increases and simply enough so that new codes can be created easily.
