Here is an example of a Material Code Syntax that allows operators and users to quickly scan and search the codes. It also allows items on the floor to be easily identified by reading the code.
Category Code-ID
Category codes: 1-5 digits - arbitrary
Example: DIG01 = Black and White Copier / DIG02 = Color Copier
Or
INK01 = Small Press / INK02 = Large Press / PMS01 = Standard PMS colors / CUS02 = Customer specific colors
Or
WID01 = Wide Format
ID: Any number of digits, arbitary
Example: 01 = First Ink or 032 = PMS 032
