Here is an example of a Material Code Syntax that allows operators and users to quickly scan and search the codes. It also allows items on the floor to be easily identified by reading the code.
Category code-Basic Area-Coating Code-Option-Weight-Roll Width
Category codes: 1-5 digits - arbitrary
Example: 110 = Gloss Coated Text / 111 = Silk Coated Text
Basic Area: 3 digits - taken from Inventory Screen
Example: 520 = Cover / 950 = Text
Coating Code: 2 digits - arbitrary
Example: 02 = Gloss Coating / 03 = Silk Coated / 04 = Offset
Option – Core size: 2 digits
Example: 03 = 3” core
Weight Code: 3 digits - Paper basis weight
Example: 80lb Cover with a 345M weight = 080
Roll Width Inches: 4 digits
Example: 22” roll – 0022 / 48” roll - 004
For example
60lb Gloss text 22” roll – 110-950-01-060-0022
60lb Gloss text 22” roll with 4” core – 110-950-01-04-060-0022
