Here is an example of a Material Code Syntax that allows operators and users to quickly scan and search the codes. It also allows items on the floor to be easily identified by reading the code.
Category Code-Basic Area-Coating Code-Weight-Square Inches
Category codes: 3 digits - arbitrary
Example: 110 = Gloss Cover / 111 = Gloss Text
Basic Area: 3 digits - taken from Inventory Screen
Example: 520 = Cover / 950 = Text
Coating Code: 2 digits - arbitrary
Example: 02 = Gloss Coating / 03 = Silk Coated / 04 = Offset
Weight Code: 3 digits - Paper basis weight
Example: 80lb Cover with a 345M weight = 080
Square Inches: 4 digits - square inches of sheet rounded up
Example: 28x40 = 1120 / 23x35 = 0805 / 8.5x11 = 0094
